Spiritless Non-Alcoholic Spirits

Spiritless was started by three friends in Kentucky, where 95 percent of the world’s bourbon is produced. Although Spiritless Distillery is the 74th distillery registered in the state, Spiritless Kentucky 74 is the world’s first non-alcoholic bourbon. The bourbon is crafted with a unique, two-step process where a high-intensity spirit is distilled into top-notch bourbon and distilled again to remove the alcohol. A small amount of the essence is added back to give Spiritless an authentic, bourbon-like feel with the accompanying flavors and tannins.

If you’re cynical about how much you would like a spirit without alcohol, we were too. All of our doubts disappeared after the first sip, which brought a wildly real bourbon experience. The rich, familiar notes of caramel, vanilla, and oak shine through brightly with a slight bite that almost resembles alcohol.  The smooth finish signals quality and the attention to detail you’d expect from a fine bourbon.

Our Spiritless sample arrived with the makings of a “New Fashioned,” which combines Spiritless Kentucky 74 with simple syrup, bitters, and orange peel.

The combination was a delightful, alcohol-free cocktail experience. We can see substituting Spiritless into any classic bourbon cocktail recipe with wonderful results. Spiritless suggests subbing out a portion of bourbon whiskey with Kentucky 74 in a cocktail to reduce ABV and calories.
